EPA Provides Guidance for Farmers for Reporting Animal Waste

The regional EPA office in Kansas City has developed a training program discussing the requirements of CAA 112(r)(7) for regulated facilities. It’s geared towards chemical facilities and their management, but also good for local emergency planners. Training is available at the following link:

CERCLA and EPCRA Farm Reporting Requirements

In April, the DC Circuit Court vacated an EPA rule that exempted farms from reporting air releases of hazardous substances from animal waste. Farms must begin reporting these releases by November 15, 2017. The EPA is currently developing guidance and plans to have it available by October 16, 2017. WIPP Shipments Return to Nebraska

Fire departments along the I-80 corridor may soon be called upon to handle accidents involving transuranic waste en route to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
